European Heritage Label (EHL)

The European Heritage Label (EHL) brings Europe’s shared history closer to its citizens through heritage sites that have made a significant contribution to the development of Europe.

Forty-four modernist buildings in Kaunas have been recognized as outstanding representatives of this architectural style. Together with many other gems of modernist architecture, they are included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Nevertheless, these are two distinct initiatives: unlike UNESCO, the EHL is implemented by the European Commission, and its primary objective is to strengthen a sense of European identity.
